Best Kept Secrets to ‘Fabulous for Less’ at TJ Maxx & Marshalls

Anyone who knows me well can tell you that I refuse to pay full price for fabulous. That’s why the Marshalls / TJ Maxx brands have played such a central role in my shopping narrative for the last two decades. For some shoppers it’s all about being seen carrying a high-end store’s shopping bag with recently-purchased goods wrapped in tissue paper. I am proud to say all of that does nothing for me. My approach to shopping is much more practical. With limited time for shopping, I am always confident Marshalls and TJ Maxx will have the clothes and “home goods” I need. I set out on my Marshalls / TJ Maxx shopping excursions once or twice a season with a list, a bottle of water and a pair of comfortable shoes. The mission is always to come home at the end of the day with a bag full of fabulous designer brands at a fraction of their original cost.

The Marshalls and TJ Maxx brands resonate with the smart, modern shopper who is looking to maximize both their dollars and quality. These brands have succeeded in taking the guilt out of shopping by dramatically increasing the perceived value of its products. Buyers feel the instant satisfaction of comparing the low TJ Maxx or Marshalls price with the MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) on the original designer labels. At these stores, there is no need to wait for a sale. There are, however, a few tips you can follow to make your bargain hunting more successful at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

  • Hitting the Marshalls / TJ Maxx combo on the right day of the week and right time of season – The best advice I can give is to shop early.  That means shop for sandals when it is still cold out and winter boots when it is still hot out. As for the best day of the week – I have a thing for Thursdays when all the good merchandise is out, waiting for the soon-to-come weekend rush.

  • As much as I love these stores, there is a lot of mainstream fashion on their racks – so grab the wardrobe basics and complement your looks with trendier colors and accessories from shopping mall stores.

  • At TJ Maxx catch some exceptional deals on trendy jewelry and purses – It is the go-to place for highly discounted Michael Kors watches and bags.

  • Toys and children’s books are among the best kept secrets of TJs and Marshalls – You can find absolutely everything you might need for a baby… From bottles and car seats to sleep sacks and mittens.

  • Get to know what each store in your area “specializes in” – For example some more remote stores have an excellent selection of small furniture pieces just because the stores receive less traffic.

  • Can’t find your size? – If you don’t find what you need at one location chances are they have it at another store in your area.

So if you have never visited the TJ Maxx and Marshalls stores or just haven’t shared my luck, I suggest trying these tips at your local store. Now, I’m curious what tips you all can share to help me step up my game. Happy bargain hunting! Share your comments below.
